Formed in 2019, the US Deprescribing Research Network is a community of people united by a shared interest in improving research on deprescribing for older adults. The network is funded by the US National Institute on Aging and aims to support and grow research on deprescribing that is scientifically rigorous and responsive to the needs of the people who are the end-users of that research – patients, caregivers, clinicians, and health systems leaders.

Portuguese Deprescribing Network (PTDeN) is a platform for researchers and healthcare professionals to share knowledge, evidence, and initiatives that support safer prescribing for older adults. This is a collaborative initiative that brings together healthcare professionals and researchers committed to improving medication safety and quality of care for older adults in Portugal.

The research network “German Deprescribing Network” (GerDeN) is an association of scientists from general medicine, geriatrics, clinical pharmacology, pharmacy and other disciplines and was founded in August 2023.

This initiative stems from the fact that there is still too little scientific knowledge in medicine about the benefits and risks of taking a large number of medications daily (polypharmacy) and about appropriate strategies for discontinuing medications (deprescribing).
