Meet Our Invited Speakers

Cynthia Boyd

Dr. Cynthia Boyd (MPH, MD) is the Director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and co-director of the US Deprescribing Research Network (USDeN). She holds a joint appointment in Health Policy and Management and Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Boyd’s career has focused on improving the health and well-being of older adults with multiple chronic conditions.

Clare Howard

Clare Howard (FFRPS, FRPharmS) is Clinical Lead for Medicines Optimisation and Polypharmacy Programme at Health Innovation Wessex . She previously served as Deputy Chief Pharmaceutical Officer for NHS England, where she advanced national medicines optimisation initiatives. Her work focuses on polypharmacy, medication safety, and innovation to improve patient outcomes.

Muhammad Mamdani

Dr. Muhammad Mamdani (PharmD, MA, MPH) is Clinical Lead for Artificial Intelligence at Ontario Health and Director of the University of Toronto Temerty Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM). His work is focused on applied artificial intelligence, health economics, drug policy, and health policy.

André Picard

André Picard is an award-winning journalist and health columnist for The Globe and Mail, one of Canada’s most widely read newspapers. He is the author of six bestselling books and has been invested into the Order of Canada for his extensive and impactful reporting on public health issues. In his work, Mr. Picard has explored many topics related to medication appropriateness, including the opioid crisis, the safety of natural health products, as well as polypharmacy and deprescribing among Canadian seniors.

Ross Upshur

Dr. Ross Upshur (MD, MA, MSc) graduated in medicine from McMaster University in 1986. His clinical research focused on complex chronic disease in adults with a focus on multimorbidity, polypharmacy and interprofessional approaches to management. In the early 2020’s he became what he was researching.
